MARK BECKER • PRODUCER / DIRECTOR / CONSULTANT / EDITOR

Mark Becker is a director, story consultant and editor of documentaries. He is currently directing a three-part documentary series about the battle over Amazing Live Sea Monkeys for A24 Films. He co-directed and edited the documentary ART AND CRAFT (2014), which was shortlisted for the 2015 Academy Awards, nominated for an Emmy Award, won recognition with the National Board of Review, and released theatrically via Oscilloscope Laboratories. He directed and edited the Emmy-nominated PRESSURE COOKER (2008) for Participant Media. His first film was the documentary ROMANTICO (2005), which was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival, received two Independent Spirit Award nominations (including Best Documentary), and was released theatrically by Kino International. Becker has directed, supervised and edited on numerous Emmy-nominated and winning films, and was one of two editors on the acclaimed LOST BOYS OF SUDAN (2003).

Through his production company, Meteor Films, Becker has worked as a story consultant and supervising editor for dozens of documentaries, many of which have garnered Emmy nominations and screened at Sundance, Tribeca and SXSW Film Festivals.

Through his directing, editing work and story consulting Becker has evolved a mentorship–apprentice model for many up-and-coming editors. Officially, he has worked as a mentor at the Gotham Labs and the True/ False Rough Cut Retreat.

Meteor Films, Inc. is organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes, more specifically to: (1) develop and produce documentary films for distribution to the greater public; (2) involve the communities represented in the films in the filmmaking process; and (3) facilitate the work of other documentary producers, when their projects are in line with the established tenets of the Organization.
